A fisherman pulled a strange object caught in his line from the muddy shore. At first it looked like nothing more than a rusty, shapeless piece of metal… but after he washed the dirt away, he realized what it really was — and stood there in shock.
After a strong storm, the fisherman came to the beach early in the morning, just like he usually did on weekends. The shoreline was covered with things the waves had thrown onto land overnight — driftwood, seaweed, plastic, and bits of old metal.
While walking along the wet, muddy edge of the water looking for a good place to fish, he noticed something unusual. A thin wire was sticking straight up out of the mud, as if it were connected to something buried underneath.
At first, he paid no attention. After storms, the shore was always full of strange debris. But curiosity got the better of him. He stepped closer, bent down, and grabbed the wire to pull it out.
It didn’t move at all.
He pushed his boots deeper into the sticky mud and pulled harder with both hands. The wire went tight, but whatever was attached to it seemed stuck fast in the ground.
“What is this thing…?” he muttered.
He tried again, pulling in short, strong jerks. The mud clung to the hidden object like it didn’t want to let go. A few times he almost gave up, but his curiosity kept him going.
Finally, with one strong pull, the ground made a loud sucking sound, and something heavy slowly came loose from the mud.
The fisherman nearly dropped it when the object suddenly came free. It was big, heavy, and covered in thick clay, making it impossible to tell what it was.
For a moment, he felt a chill run down his back.
