Laura Martin thought she had witnessed nearly everything during her more than five years as a nanny. Because of this, she didn’t find anything strange when she began working at the Blake family’s house. A large suburban home, a tidy yard, amiable parents, and a baby named Noah who is nine months old.
Claire, his mother, worked all day. Michael, the father, was a programmer who typically worked from home, hidden away in his downstairs office. The initial weeks went by in silence.
Laura, however, started to notice something odd.
She saw thin red stains on the baby’s thighs each time she changed the diaper. nor an irritant, nor a rash. They appeared overly uniform, as though someone had used their fingers to squeeze the skin. She initially blamed the diapers, thinking they might be the incorrect model or too firmly attached.
The marks vanished within a few days. However, they later reappeared.
Then the noises began.
Laura heard footsteps upstairs more and more during the day as Noah slept. creaky floorboards. gentle motions. Michael calmly responded that he had been seated at the computer the entire time when she questioned him about it. Laura once went up to the nursery and, despite the fact that the space had been empty only moments before, she could hear the door closing from within.
Fear replaced her unease.
Laura felt she could not wait any longer when she noticed a fresh mark on the child’s body the following morning. She placed a little camera she had ordered in a nursery corner, pointing it straight at the crib.
It was a quiet first two days. Laura even started to question her own abilities and believe she had made things up. However, she made the decision to watch the video after lunch on the third day.
The initial minutes were unremarkable. The door then opened slowly and abruptly. Almost without sound. A person walked in.
Laura realized right away that it wasn’t Claire. Furthermore, Michael wasn’t the one.
The dude was someone I had never seen before. Laura was taken aback by what she saw when he approached the cot and stooped over the infant… 
Laura was breathing heavily when the man leaned over the cot. The man exuded confidence, as though this was nothing new to him. Gently, almost habitually, he grabbed the infant by the thighs and squeezed the skin.
Noah remained asleep. All he did was sigh quietly while he slept.
After a few seconds, the man moved the blanket and carefully walked out of the nursery, softly shutting the door behind him.
Laura didn’t hesitate. Without telling Michael, who was then sitting quietly at his computer, she snatched up her jacket, the child, and fled the home. The cops arrived at the house within an hour.
The video was examined multiple times. When Michael recognized the stranger’s face, he became pale. He recognized the person right away.
It was Ethan, his older brother.
Ethan was officially listed as missing. Everyone was certain that he had either died or gone overseas after he vanished several years prior following a quarrel with the family. However, the reality was much more horrifying.
Only he was aware of the old attic entry point that Ethan had been using to sneak into the house. He had been observing the family, learning their routine, and inspecting the alarm system, cameras, and locks for months.
He purposefully left those unsettling but barely perceptible imprints on the child’s body. He intended to show something different rather than do significant harm. He was collecting proof.
He intended to blackmail Michael with all of this. Ethan desired cash. He intended to demonstrate to the child that he could enter the house at any time and do anything he wanted.
Subsequently, the police discovered a rucksack in the attic that held extensive notes on every day the family spent together, children’s clothing, and copies of the recordings. Ethan was going to call his brother shortly.
If Laura hadn’t been there.
