Kechi Okwuchi is from Nigeria and lives in Houston. When she was 16, she was in a plane crash in Nigeria that took the lives of 107 of the 109 people on board, and she was one of only two survivors.
She told the judges that while she lay in a hospital bed, unable to move, music became her escape. Then she sang Ed Sheeran’s “Thinking Out Loud,” and her soft, warm voice filled the room with emotion. 🎶
As she sang, the audience listened closely and broke into applause, moved by both her voice and the story behind it.
Kechi’s audition was about much more than singing. It showed how music can carry someone through the hardest moments of life and give them a reason to keep going. ❤️
