When a brown horse unexpectedly showed up in a nursing home, the residents and staff were all taken aback until they learned why the animal was there
At the nursing home, it was just another typical day.
Everyone was occupied with their own tasks; some were sleeping in their recliners, others were watching TV, and yet others were reading the newspaper. Abruptly, a nurse’s worried voice broke the stillness:
— “You have a guest, ma’am!”
Surprised, the old woman in her wheelchair looked up.
— “Who? I have no expectations. I don’t have any guests.
The nurse added clumsily, “I don’t know, but they said it was urgent.”
The woman moved slowly toward the guests’ room. What was waiting for her there was beyond her wildest expectations. Then there was a real shock. A massive brown horse with a big, gorgeous mane stood in the center of the room.
The entire staff, along with several inmates, had assembled in the hallway to see the amazing event in awe. As though it knew exactly why it was there, the horse stood quietly.
Rolling closer, the old woman put out her shaking hand and wrapped it around the animal’s neck. Her cheeks were wet with tears. Instead of resisting, the horse lowered its head to allow the woman to pet its snout.
At last, one of the locals inquired, “What’s going on?” Why would a horse be kept in a nursing home?
Everyone was stunned when the woman, who was still clinging to the animal, subtly revealed something.
— “This is more than simply a horse… My pal is this. He was still a foal when I raised him. We were together for twenty years without ever being apart. However, he stayed with the neighbors once I got sick and was relocated here. They were concerned about him, yet Through her tears, she grinned and sighed, “He missed me.” He quit eating because of it. My neighbor was pining for me, and then he understood it.
There was silence in the room. Nobody was able to contain their tears.
For a long time, the woman cradled her beloved’s head in her hands while muttering words of love and appreciation. The horse responded with a soft breath and a tiny flip of its ears, as if it understood every word.
The old woman died a week after this meeting. Above all, though, was the opportunity she had to bid farewell to the person she truly loved. And knowing that he had seen his master one last time, her devoted friend at last found peace.
