Skilyr Hicks was 14 when she walked onto the America’s Got Talent stage with her guitar and a song she had written herself. She told the judges she started playing after her father passed away a few years earlier, and that the last time she saw him, he was crying as she drove away.
After his funeral, she wrote her first song, “Brand New Day.” She called it a message that came too late for her dad. Her voice was soft and honest as she sang about sorrow, prayer and hope for a better tomorrow. 🎶
The judges were visibly touched. One told her she had won all of their hearts, another said her tone sounded far more mature than her age, and one imagined her father somewhere, glowing with pride.
Then came the vote. One by one the judges said yes, and Skilyr left the stage with four yeses and a room full of cheers. ❤️
