On that dreadful Saturday in April, Chef Joey Fecci tragically died a few miles short of finishing a Nashville half-marathon. His abrupt death at the age of 26 has made a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
According to multiple local news sources, Fecci needed immediate medical assistance during the St. Jude Rock ‘n’ Roll Series Nashville Marathon after being discovered unconscious in Shelby Park. Fecci could not be rescued, even with the prompt attention he received from the medical staff at the scene and his subsequent haste to the hospital.
“We are grateful to the medical staff for their prompt assistance of the participant,” the Rock ‘n’ Roll Running Series stated in a statement. They offered their sincere condolences to Fecci’s family and friends and pledged to be there for them throughout this extremely trying time.

Fecci’s family expressed their deep sadness in a touching letter, recalling him as a beloved son, brother, boyfriend, and friend as well as a source of inspiration and optimism. A vacuum remains in the family that cherished him when he is gone.
Fecci passed away suddenly from natural causes, according to Nashville police, who have also opted not to look into the matter any further.

At the age of fifteen, Fecci embarked on his career in the culinary arts, starting out as a busboy and pizza chef before moving on to more challenging positions in the industry. His interest brought him to Hyde Park, New York’s The Culinary Institute of America. Fecci established a solid reputation in the culinary industry by working in esteemed restaurants and with famous chefs throughout his career.
During his career, he worked as chef de partie at Per Se in New York City, worked as an intern at Charlie Palmer’s Michelin-starred Aureole in Las Vegas, and worked at the Michelin-starred Spiaggia in Chicago. When Fecci joined the Yolan in Nashville, his skills were fully appreciated, and he soon advanced from head sous chef to chef de cuisine.

After Fecci passed away, many in the food industry sent condolences. One such person was Top Chef winner Joe Flamm, who shared his sorrow and thanks for having collaborated with such a driven and gifted chef.
To honor Fecci’s extraordinary life and carry on his legacy, a GoFundMe page has been created to donate funds to prospective culinary students. Fecci’s commitment to the culinary arts and his influence on the field are reflected in this project, which guarantees that future generations will continue to be impacted by him.
