Adrian Romoff, a nine-year-old from Atlanta, Georgia, stood out right away when he performed on America’s Got Talent because of his confidence. Adrian enthralled the judges with his keen wit and exceptional intelligence before he even touched the keyboard. He casually disclosed that he had already skipped five classes, was in the eighth grade, and would be attending college in two years. He clarified that despite his exceptional scientific abilities, he was not yet able to pursue a career in medicine, but he could pursue a career in music. Adrian raised the standard for his own performance by eloquently discussing the value of emotion in music and refuting the notion of a “piano-playing robot.”
Adrian had similarly amazing musical ability. At first, he played a difficult classical composition, but judge Howie Mandel was confused by the speed and showmanship, wondering if he was performing live or using a recording. Adrian demonstrated his amazing poise under duress by quickly offering to play another piece to dispel the uncertainty. His second performance was an incredible demonstration of talent that solidified his reputation as a musical prodigy. He was more than just a note player; he was a master of the instrument, playing with a passion and musical knowledge far above his nine years of age.
Both his tremendous musical ability and his brilliant mind left the judges utterly astonished. After being perplexed at first, Howie Mandel eagerly said “Yes,” complimenting his demeanor and referring to him as “a genius.” Mel B told him she could listen to him play all day, while Heidi Klum said he was “the future” and so much older than he was. Adrian received four unanimous “Yes” votes due to his extraordinary talent and distinctive, captivating charm. The tryouts began on a genuinely memorable note when Simon Cowell, who had been reticent at first, referred to the boy as a genius whose act was “very good.”
