When J.K. Rowling’s book series was made into a movie, it was already a global hit. But the movie series expanded equally, propelling the youthful actors who portrayed the well-known characters into global renown.
Rowling, the author of the characters that Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson brought to life on screen, seemed to have a great relationship with both actors, who played Harry Potter and Hermione Granger, respectively. However, there may have been tension between them recently.
Rowling appears to have recently voiced her displeasure with the two performers. She authored a thread for the eagerly anticipated Cass Review on X, the former name of Twitter. Dr. Hilary Cass, a pediatrician examining gender identity services provided to kids in the UK, conducted the review. According to the findings, there is a “lack of high-quality research” on how puberty blockers affect kids.
Rowling took to X after the review was published to vent her frustration about what she called “severe medical malpractice.”
Where is your sense of self-preservation, even if you don’t feel guilty of applauding for what appears to be serious medical negligence and even if you don’t want to acknowledge that you might have been mistaken? She commented earlier this week, “The bandwagon you jumped on so gladly is hurtling towards a cliff.”
In her posts, she continued, saying, “If I seem angry, it’s because I’m bloody angry.” My rage has been building all day since I read Cass this morning. Children have suffered irreversible harm, and thousands of people—not just medical professionals but also celebrity spokesman, gullible journalists, and ruthless corporations—have participated in this.
She hadn’t specifically mentioned any celebrities, but her critical comments about Emma and Dan came after one of her followers tweeted, “I’m just waiting for Dan and Emma to give you a very public apology. secure in the understanding that you will pardon them.
By replying to the tweet, the writer spoke directly to the stars in question. “Not safe, I’m afraid,” she murmured. She continued, writing, “Celebs who backed a movement aimed at undermining women’s hard-won rights and who used their platforms to support minors in their transitions should hold off on apologizing to traumatized detransitioners and vulnerable women who depend on spaces for single sex.”
Radcliffe and Watson both released statements in 2020, a time when Rowling’s divisive remarks against transgender people made headlines. The whole thing began when Rowling retweeted an opinion piece in which she expressed her disapproval of the author’s choice to refer to “people who menstruate” rather than “women.”
“Those who are menstruating. There was probably a term for those individuals once. Someone somebody assist me. Wumben? Wimpund? Woomud?” was her tweet.
People’s thoughts on what she had written poured into her mentions. Her implication infuriated a lot of people, who wanted to ask her to stop.
She remained steadfast in the face of intense criticism for her tweet. “There’s no same-sex attraction if sex isn’t real,” she later tweeted. The lived realities of women around the world are erased if sex isn’t genuine. I know and adore transgender people, but many of them are unable to have meaningful conversations about their life if the concept of sex is eliminated. Telling the truth is not hate.
In response to her contentious remarks, Radcliffe wrote a piece for The Trevor Project at the time in which he expressed his support for the transgender community and expressed regret for whatever hurt the author’s words may have caused others.
Watson also issued a statement endorsing the transgender community. Transgender individuals are who they say they are, and they should be allowed to live their lives without being continuously questioned or told they aren’t.
She continued, “I want my transgender supporters to know that you are seen, respected, and loved for who you are by me and a huge number of other people worldwide.”
