Twenty-year-old Pip Langhorne, who works in a bar, brought Buddy, her five-month-old puppy, on the Britain’s Got Talent (BGT) stage. Pip clarified that although she had always desired a solo career, she believed Buddy’s special gift should be highlighted. The two had just been together for five months and had never done a public performance. This was Pip’s first public performance and a test of Buddy’s poise since they uploaded their video after finding out that BGT was taking YouTube auditions.
Pip started singing “I Can Make It” (from Fame) during their audition, and Buddy first sat quietly next to her. But Buddy started singing along at a totally unexpected moment that startled the judges and the audience. In perfect harmony with the music’s tone, the puppy tipped his head back and joined in with a dramatic, howling vocal accompaniment. The audience cheered and laughed when the “singing dog” started singing, recognizing they were watching a really funny and unusual performance.
Buddy’s spontaneous act astonished and delighted the judges. Michael McIntyre acknowledged that he “never knew what to expect,” but he described Buddy’s singing as “very surprising.” When asked what sort of music Buddy liked, Pip explained his dramatic voice style by saying that he usually liked classical and opera. The judges gave Pip and Buddy a standing ovation and gave them three “yeses” with ease. Michael concluded that the chance to try out via YouTube was “worth it for moments like that.”
