Ronan Busfield, a thirty-three-year-old Bedfordshire resident, introduced himself as an employee of a reputable supermarket, which immediately created a stark contrast to the talent he was about to showcase. Ronan acknowledged that a successful audition would be “utterly life-changing” and that his debut on the Britain’s Got Talent stage has been a dream “building up inside me for years and years.” He was obviously scared but also thrilled to finally show off his actual talent to the world as his wife and young son were watching backstage.
Ronan choose the popular and difficult song “Maria” from the show West Side Story for his performance. His strong, operatic tenor voice filled the theater as soon as he started singing, eliciting a huge response from the crowd and shocking the judges. His vocals were so emotive and deep that the panel observed that he appeared to have a remarkable stage presence, demonstrating that he was much more than just a Tesco employee.
Ronan revealed something unexpected during the feedback: he had actually been a professional singer for five years before quitting after his father died and he had a family. Despite his admission that he “just fell out of love with singing,” he now wanted to prove to his wife and children that he could still pursue his ambition. David Walliams referred to his rendition as “fantastic,” while Judge Simon Cowell observed that the performance was “very passionate” and that people would “root for” him. Ronan Busfield’s career was successfully restarted with a strong comeback after he obtained a unanimous four “yeses.”
