I brought my 7-year-old Labrador with me when I moved into our new house after getting married. He was more than simply a pet; he had supported me at every phase of my life. I genuinely thought my wife felt the same way about him—he was family. He had always been the object of her affection, and she had patted him and made jokes about him being our “first baby.”
Then, just after we got situated, he disappeared.
He was there one day, and then he simply disappeared. I went into a panic. I looked throughout the neighborhood, posted online, checked shelters, called his name till my throat ached, and more. In the hopes that someone would bring him back, my wife and I posted posters with a $300 reward because she appeared worried too.
A neighbor knocked on our door a few days later. clutching my Labrador.
Relief washed over me. He resisted when I tried to give him the award money. That in itself seemed strange. “Why won’t you take it?” I inquired.
He didn’t respond to me. He simply glanced over my shoulder.
My spouse had entered.
Her face turned white the moment she laid eyes on him.
“Ask your wife,” the neighbor murmured quietly as his face stiffened.
I felt sick to my stomach.
At that point, it became clear that my wife had covertly handed my puppy away. She got rid of him behind my back after growing weary of his barking and deciding she didn’t want to cope with him.
What was bad about it? She had been acting the entire time. She assisted with putting out flyers. She looked anxious. She knew exactly where my dog was and played the role of the loving, supportive spouse.
It was deliberate, not merely treacherous. She wasn’t simply against my dog. She pretended that we were a team while lying directly to me and watching me feel anxious and sad.
I then understood something more significant than the dog: what would she do if she could pull off something so cunning and ruthless later on in life? When did we have children? When did actual obligations appear?
That day, my Labrador did not simply return home.
He revealed my spouse to me.
And I knew I couldn’t unsee it once I saw it clearly. I submitted a divorce petition.
