My horse started neighing loudly during our wedding picture shoot, directly at my fiancé. A few seconds later, she bit him. At first, I assumed the animal had simply been spooked by the camera flash or the guests’ laughter, but then I observed something odd…
I had been ecstatic since early that morning since I had always hoped that my most devoted friend, my beloved horse, would be featured in our wedding pictures. She was kind, submissive, loving, and I had the utmost faith in her. I had a very particular place in my heart for this horse because she was a gift from my late father.
The notion didn’t bother my fiancé; in fact, he thought it would be romantic and unique to take pictures with the horse. The morning light, the gentle breeze, and the photographer’s instructions were all going flawlessly. However, as soon as we got to the fence and were standing beside the horse, she started neighing loudly, stomping her hooves, throwing her head, and even using her muzzle to push my fiancé in the chest.
She suddenly bent her head and gave him a hard shoulder bite despite my attempts to soothe her by caressing her neck and whispering soft words. My fiancé let out a cry, staggered back, and screamed in agony:
— Your horse has lost his mind! Make a doctor’s appointment!
I was stunned. What had happened to her was beyond my comprehension. No one had ever been harmed by the horse I had known since I was a child. She wasn’t insane, though, as I discovered a few minutes later.
I was appalled when I learned the true cause of her odd behavior a little later
Our stableman came over as I was berating the horse. Silently but gravely, he said:
She observed everything and simply didn’t want to be near a cheater, so don’t be upset with her.
I was taken aback.
— What are you saying? What was it she saw?
The stableman then informed me that my fiancé had visited the stables multiple times, not by himself, while I had been away at competitions. In front of my devoted horse, he bragged, hugged, and showed off my horses to another woman he had brought along.
Then everything made sense. She just couldn’t bear to be around someone who had harmed me.
The wedding never happened. I returned home, undressed, and gave my one real pal a hug.
