The bride immediately called off the wedding after an unidentified elderly woman approached her during the ceremony and murmured a few words in her ear 
Everything was ideal in the midst of the festivities. The bride had just been dragged into another dance, the newlyweds were smiling, the musicians were playing a lively tune, the guests were raising their glasses, and the dishes were spread out on the long oak tables. Nothing appeared to be able to spoil this day, thus everyone was delighted for the young couple.
But at that precise time, a hunched person emerged at the venue’s edge as laughing reverberated across the entire courtyard. An elderly woman wearing faded, drab clothing and a tattered headscarf. Nobody knew her, and nobody had invited her. And for that reason, when she deliberately approached the bride, the music seemed to stop on its own.
The visitors looked at each other, muttered, and some put their palms over their mouths.
— Who is she?
I have no idea.
— A distant relative, perhaps?
The bride’s lips quivered as she attempted to smile. Even though she didn’t know this woman, she felt a chill go through her. The elderly woman paused in front of her, lent her a heavy, prolonged look, and leaned gently in her ear.
The bride’s face quickly went white, as if all the blood had been sucked from it, while the guests noticed the woman whispering something. With a faint nod, the elderly woman moved away, leaving the bride motionless.
Her friends muttered, “What did she say?” but the bride was unable to speak.
After a few seconds, she declared in a firm, piercing voice:
– The wedding has been called off
She looked up at the groom, but he looked away hurriedly, as though he was afraid to look her in the eye. Everything came together in that instant.
She kept thinking about what the elderly woman had said:
“His child is being carried by my daughter. He embarrassed her. In the same way that he tricked her, he will trick you. I was unable to preserve my. However, I’ll save you.
The bride’s breath caught. The elderly woman was the mother of the woman about whom she had only heard hazy stories that she had never wanted to believe. Everything became real now.
She moved forward, covered her trembling with her veil, and spoke loudly and clearly, loud enough for everyone to hear, even at the gate:
– The wedding has been called off.
The visitors gasped. The groom’s face went white. The music ceased altogether.
For the final time, the elderly woman saved the person who could still be saved by walking away slowly and without turning around.
