At the airport my son yelled at me and said he wasn’t going to pay for my ticket: I had already resigned myself to staying alone in a foreign country, until something unexpected happened

I had already come to terms with being alone in a distant country when my son raged at me at the airport and stated he wouldn’t be paying for my ticket. However, something unexpected happened 😢😨

I never imagined this was how our journey would conclude. We were sitting in the kitchen with Eric and his family about a week earlier when he told me, “Mom, it’ll be good for you to change scenery, come with us, you’ll get some rest.” I kept saying no because I didn’t want to be a burden and I didn’t have much money. However, my son was adamant. He promised to cover all expenses, including the airfare, lodging, and meals. And I had faith in him.

I had never been overseas before. I was anxious since everything seemed strange to me, including the people, the language, and the airports. However, I didn’t appear to get any attention from Eric’s family. I kept to myself the entire time so as not to disturb anyone.

The true terror started on the way back. My reservation wasn’t paid for when we arrived at the check-in desk. Not a ticket, only reserved. I was perplexed and assumed there must have been a mistake. However, as if he had been waiting for an excuse, Eric exploded right away:

I won’t pay for you again, Mom! You were aware that you needed to send the money in advance!

Unable to comprehend what he was talking about, I stood there. He was the one who insisted, even though we had all agreed on everything.

— Eric, yet you mentioned…

— Enough! He nearly yelled, turning around to make sure no one could hear. — I have my own expenses and my own family! I don’t have to stand by you forever!

The woman behind the counter stated icily that check-in will close and I would be left on my own in a foreign country if the ticket wasn’t bought within the next few minutes.

Eric was standing beside me, his fists clenched in frustration. My young grandson gave me a look and whispered:

— Grandma, will you not be returning home?

My son yelled more and more, accusing me of being to blame for everything:

— You are to blame for not doing any checks! Your babysitter is not me! Stay here if you’d want; I don’t care!

Heads turned. My desire was to vanish.

My eyes burned as I settled into a chair. I had already come to terms with the fact that I would be living alone in a foreign nation. that without me, my son would depart.

Then, however, an unexpected event occurred 😢😲

Not just the passengers could hear Eric’s yelling. A police officer and two airport employees came up to the counter. Calmly, a uniformed woman said:

You’re bothering the other passengers, sir. Please stop.

However, my son was even more irate, began defending himself, pointing his finger at me, and screamed at me once more while swinging his arms:

She is to blame! Everything is ruined by her! I should never have brought her!

The staff declared that they were compelled to detain him for hostile behavior and disrupting the peace after issuing multiple warnings.

His wife went white. My grandson broke down in tears. As they stated that he might receive a fine or perhaps a deportation notice, Eric was taken away. The decision will be made once the incident was formally documented.

The employee then turned to face me and said:

Your ticket has already been paid for, ma’am. It’s all on us. You are free to return home.

Quietly but firmly, she added:

The way he handled you was too much for us to see.
