When the cops broke open the upholstery after a couple reported hearing unusual noises coming from their sofa, they found something horrible
Just as dawn was breaking, the couple made an early police call. When the woman attempted to tell the operator that “something is living” in their sofa, her voice faltered.
— “It’s moving… and scratching,” she insisted. “At first, we thought it was noise from the street, but the sounds are coming straight from the sofa!”
The officer made the decision to accompany a K9 handler and his dog to the site. Perhaps there was something there.
The couple was already tense when they walked into the living room; his wife appeared to be about to scream as the man in the wheelchair held her hand. There was a tight stillness.
The dog’s fur on its neck bristled as it froze at the sofa, and then it let out a snarl. A moment later, it buried its muzzle in the cloth and barked loudly as it pounced at the plush pillows. The officer scowled as the owners gasped:
— “Something is in there. Furthermore, it is unquestionably not little.
The dog squealed with delight as it scratched at the couch with its paws, seemingly attempting to communicate with an unseen foe.
Taking out a knife, the officer made a meticulous incision into the sofa’s side. At first, dust and old stuffing spilled out, then a piercing squeak was heard.
— “My God!” the woman cried, putting her hand over her mouth.
Within the couch were…
A number of gray bodies escaped through the gap. They were large, shiny-eyed rats. The dog chased them frantically as they scurried across the floor.
The worst, however, was within. Everyone could see that there was an actual nest inside the sofa cavity when the officer tore the material even more.
There were dozens of rats, newborn puppies, and heaps of gray bodies squirming and squeaking, an entire family.
“How were they able to enter?” The man in the wheelchair turned pale and mumbled.
The police pulled the dog back when it barked and attempted to capture the rats. The scale astonished even him, who had seen a lot. The sofa, where the family had sat for years, watched TV, and welcomed visitors, was a breeding ground for a living nightmare.
The woman’s hands trembled and she almost screamed because she could take it no more:
— “We were sitting on this?
The officer gave a solemn nod.
— “Yes. We’ll take care of it now, though. Your home is no longer a place for them.”
Only then did the couple understand that the odd sounds they had been hearing for weeks were real and not just a figment of their imagination.
