When hundreds of eagles unexpectedly landed on the gravestones during the soldiers’ funeral, the public was taken aback and unable to comprehend the birds’ peculiar behavior until they discovered the awful reality 
In the same cemetery, 100 warriors who had sacrificed their lives for their country were interred next to each other. Their tombstones were similar, signifying equality, fraternity, and unending memory. Their name, last name, birthdate, and deathdate—the same day they perished for their homeland—were inscribed on each stone.
Their family members gathered at the cemetery on that chilly fall day. While some clutched flowers, some held handkerchiefs, and yet others gazed at the ground, everyone stood in silence. It felt as though time had stopped. Silence, a hundred graves, just the wind rustling dried leaves.
Nobody said a word when the minute of silence started. Everybody was absorbed in their own sorrow and recollections. All of a sudden, there was an odd noise that sounded like enormous wings rustling overhead.
People looked up, and the sky appeared to come to life as dozens of huge, majestic birds, including eagles, fell one by one and settled on the gravestones.
Nobody made a move. Even the kids who were standing next to their parents froze and remained silent. As though each had discovered its proper position, the eagles silently sat on the stones, spreading their wings.
The birds just sat motionless; they were neither frightened of people or distracted by the commotion. In a matter of minutes, a hundred graves and a hundred eagles were scattered around the clearing.
As if responding to an unseen cue, the eagles took off after the ceremony, one after the other, and then a third. A few minutes later, the cemetery was deserted once more, and no sign of them remained.
People stood in shock, some crying, some filming with their phones, and some making the sign of the cross. Everyone made an effort to comprehend what had occurred. And everyone was taken aback when the cause of the birds’ peculiar behavior was eventually identified
The village was soon filled with rumors that the sky itself had come to bid the troops farewell—a sign from above—and that the soldiers’ souls had returned in the shape of eagles.
However, ornithologists provided a straightforward explanation a few days later: the air temperature was extremely low that day, and the sun-heated marble tombstones remained warm for a significantly longer period of time than the surrounding earth.
Unaware of their precise location, the eagles, returning from migration, felt the warmth and landed merely to warm themselves.
People nodded and agreed after hearing the explanation, but they secretly hoped it wasn’t a coincidence. Because the heart occasionally decides to trust in miracles rather than science.
On that day, many people wanted to think that the eagles weren’t just there by accident, so they bowed their wings again in front of those who had before dared to spread theirs for others.
