Everyone was startled by the wise wife’s response when the husband, after 50 years of marriage, claimed he had never loved her and had simply lived with her for the benefit of the kids
Is it possible to spend fifty years with the same person?
Nearly a whole lifetime… Some people spend their entire lives with one person, while others find it unreal. However, many people still come to the realization that they were with the wrong person after all these years.
This elderly couple’s daughters planned a small event for their parents to commemorate their wedding anniversary.
They leased a comfortable space and got together with friends and family. Everyone raised their glasses, danced, laughed, and relished this unique day.
Following some wine and congratulations, the man got up, turned to face his wife, and asked her to join him in a tango.
It was the same tune to which they had danced during their first wedding dance as young people.
They moved boldly and slowly, as though time had stopped. Some of the attendees wiped away their tears of admiration.
Everything appeared very romantic.
However, as soon as the music stopped, the husband abruptly moved aside and spoke to his wife:
I apologize, but you were never someone I adored. My parents had me marry you when I was younger. I couldn’t love you, though. But now, I want to enjoy and live a calm life for the rest of my days. Since the kids are grown, they don’t require me to be their mother’s spouse.
There was silence in the room. The visitors were horrified when the wife went pale. Someone put their palm over their mouth, and someone spilled a glass. Everyone feared the woman would erupt, shout, weep, or make a commotion.
However, the wife straightened up, met her husband’s eyes, and said something gently but firmly that shocked everyone in the room. The husband then felt terrible about what he had said 
I was aware of all of this from the start, you know. But because I had a choice at the time—either I would become a victim of my circumstances or I would make my life a tale of strength—I chose to accept you for who you are. I went with the latter.
The visitors listened intently to her pause.
Do you believe that I have spent these fifty years for you? You’re not correct. I lived for myself, the family, and our kids. I also discovered how to be content even while I was with someone who didn’t love me throughout that time. Because my love for myself was sufficient to maintain the coziness and warmth of the house.
With her voice becoming louder, the woman turned to the guests:
However, if you have made the decision to set yourself free today, know that I am also free. I am not bound to remain silent, to suffer, or to spend the rest of my years with you. For myself, I shall live them. And since no one can ever take away my love, I understand what it’s like to actually love and be loved, unlike you.
As though hundreds of individuals had all taken a breath at once, a sigh swept across the room. The husband’s face contorted with resentment as he lowered his eyes. He understood that he had embarrassed himself in the process of trying to embarrass her.
With a composed look, the wife lifted her glass and said:
Let’s dance now, my pals. Life continues.
Standing was applauded by the guests. The spouse understood then that he had lost everything.
