A single mother, the woman never anticipated praise for a small deed of kindness.
She was driving home in her ancient automobile after a long and exhausting shift when she observed smoke rising from the ruins where a car had slammed into a tree.
With a tiny flashlight in her hand, she stopped her car without thinking and hurried through the rain. She noticed a youngster sobbing in the back seat and a man who was immobile inside the vehicle.
She let the youngster out first, checked on him, and then went back to the driver, a tall millionaire in a wet suit. She assisted him in exiting the flaming vehicle.
The physicians started treating the dad and the child as soon as the ambulance arrived. The mother kept a close eye on the father and the child to make sure they were alright, and she didn’t even seek thanks.

Behind her, the woman heard his voice and froze. The millionaire approached, his eyes unusually serious despite being soaked to the bone.
— Hold on, — he whispered firmly but quietly. — Ethan Carter is my name. I am aware that your aim is not to be grateful. However, what you accomplished is invaluable.
Maya tried to dismiss the uneasiness with a small shake of her head. Her life was routine: she worked, took care of her child, and did housework. She had never considered fame or heroics.
Without turning away, she answered, “It was just… the right thing to do.”
Ethan grinned, but Maya secretly thought the smile was hiding something deeper. He produced a business card, which he gave to her:
— Tomorrow, I would like you to visit my workplace. I’m at a loss for words to express my gratitude. However, I can assure you that it will transform your life.
Maya reluctantly accepted the business card, but she also experienced an odd thrill. She noticed that an ordinary night had transformed into an incident that could alter her fate forever as she glanced at the rainy street and the ambulance’s flashing lights.
Although she was unsure of what to anticipate, she was certain that her life would never be the same.
