Twenty years after their daughter vanished following the graduation celebration, the father eventually opened the old school album and saw something horrifying in one of the pictures
On the evening of the graduation ball, the daughter disappeared. She attended a reception with her pals following the wedding. She never returned home, even though her parents were expecting her to do so in the morning. They initially believed she had stayed at a friend’s place before realizing she had just missed her way. However, her abandoned bag was discovered close to a bus station around morning. No traces, no witnesses. Just solitude and never-ending, fruitless searching.
Twenty years later, the parents made the decision to sort through their daughter’s stuff for the first time in a long time. The school uniform remained neatly hung on the hanger, her sticker-covered journal rested on the shelf, and the walls were covered with yellowed posters, giving the impression that time had frozen in the room.
The father was carefully going through textbook, notepad, and magazine boxes when his fingers came to rest on a thick cover at the bottom of a drawer. It was the photo album from the old school. Because of the agony of the recollections, he had never opened it before.
As he laid the album carefully on the table, dust began to rise. He hesitated for a long moment before turning to the first page. Children grinned on the glossy papers as they saw their professors, classmates, and graduation celebrations.
They appeared to be about to come to life and begin talking since everything was so vibrant.
His eyes froze on one of the pages. A picture of his daughter wearing the “Graduate” sash while wearing her school uniform was there. She had that grin on her lips that he would never see again, and her eyes were full of hope.
However, the father saw something terrible in that picture, and he instantly realized where his daughter had vanished.
A man appeared behind his daughter, as though he had inadvertently slipped into the picture. He had never seen the man before. An outsider. Even though his face was in shadow, his icy eyes were plain to see. Instead of focusing on the camera, they were looking straight at her.
He appeared unaware of the photographer, as though his sole intent was to stare intently at the girl in the middle of the image.
The father’s hands started to shake. He thought back to how his daughter had disappeared that night. What had transpired could never be explained. And now, twenty years later, this picture seemed to convey the message that the solution had always been there—no one had ever spotted it.
The puzzle that had been buried in his memory for years started to fit together in that very instant. The dad whose eyes were fixed on his daughter was the one who caused her to vanish.
