A German Shepherd mother was frantically attempting to tend to her injured puppy on the highway when I saw it. I carefully took up the puppy and carried it into the road, but then something unexpected happened 😱😲

It was raining hard that day. I was traveling down a roadway that was almost deserted when I noticed an odd sight. A German Shepherd was standing by the side of the road; it was wet, thin, and had hopeless eyes. She continued to glance down while giving a loud bark.

I initially assumed she had discovered food or something. But in this cold, struggling so hard for food? Not likely. I pulled over, went out into the rain, and approached.

Then I noticed it: a tiny puppy was futilely trying to climb up near a concrete wall down below. It was unable to recover from the injury to its little paw. The older dog’s barking abruptly changed to a pleading whine when she noticed me, as though she were pleading for assistance.

I scooped up the puppy with care and took it out on the road. Wet but alive, mother and pup were finally side by side. With a breath of relief, I was prepared to get back in the car and leave. Then, however, an entirely unexpected event occurred  😱😱

I was followed by the German Shepherd and her dog. The mother was standing in front of the car when I opened the driver’s door, preventing me from getting out. Her eyes were filled with a plea rather than wrath. I realized then that they didn’t want me to leave.

I opened the passenger door. As like they had been waiting for this moment all along, they both leaped inside at that precise instant.

They both reside with me now, and they are vibrant and intelligent.

I now question whether they intentionally set up that small “scene” by the side of the road in order to find a suitable owner. Or was that merely a coincidence? I am certain, nevertheless, that dogs can occasionally be more intelligent than we realize.
