When my daughter said something that caused a biker weep, she gave him her teddy bear.
I made the decision to move to a new place with my daughter, who is five years old, after the divorce. We filled up at a petrol station along the way.
My kid noticed a number of bikers there. She asked if she could go say hello out of curiosity, but before I could respond, she rushed over to them.
I watched from the back. She approached the largest biker in the group right away. After they spoke for a while, I noticed a shift in his expression. He knelt down and began to cry when she gave him her teddy bear.
I was taken aback. Like a child, this enormous man was crying. I didn’t know what my daughter might have said to make me feel that way.
I asked her what had happened when she returned to me.
I asked her what she had said to the biker when she returned to me.
She shrugged, as if everything were clear.
I handed him my teddy bear because he appeared depressed. I informed him that she gives me a strong embrace when I’m feeling down, which makes me feel less alone.
The biker was back on his feet, clutching the teddy bear like a priceless object.
He came over when he saw me staring.
He spoke in a shaky voice: “My son had a teddy bear exactly like that. Last year, he died. Your daughter informed me that I should stop feeling depressed now.
There was nothing I could say.
With my heart in my throat, I simply nodded.
A child’s simple gesture had relieved an ache that words could never ease at that moment of suspension.
