😨😲I was quite horrified to learn the truth, even though I had assumed my mother-in-law was giving away my old clothing to a good cause.
I was delighted to assist her when she offered to take a few things because she had always been kind and giving, treating me like a daughter.
However, things quickly began to feel off. The frequency of my mother-in-law’s visits increased, and I got uncomfortable with her attention to specific things. My husband simply shrugged when I told him.
One Saturday, my husband got a disturbing phone call. I felt a cold lump in my chest as he hurried out of the home. Upon his return, he appeared frightful: pale and shaking, as though he had come upon something terrible.
He sat across from me, staring out into space. My husband trembled as he muttered, “It’s not what we thought.” — “Mom.”
A shiver went through my body. “What took place?” Breathing hard, I asked.
Trying to gather his thoughts, my husband inhaled deeply before saying, “She wasn’t donating your clothes to charity at all, but…”
I was genuinely horrified to learn how my mother-in-law had utilized them.
Not knowing what he meant, I froze. My husband clarified that he had to quickly fix the plumbing at his mother’s house because pipes had burst.
He found something disagreeable when he searched the storage room: my mother-in-law was using a lot of my possessions as rags, dusting, and floor cleaning tools.
As it turned out, this was not the first time she had stolen high-end, branded goods in the name of charity.
We were taken aback to discover that everything was being utilized for cleaning, even though we believed we were doing well.
I was confused, angry, and hurt all at once. I took good care of these pricey garments and wanted them to be used properly.
It seems that my trust had now been betrayed.
I ponder whether I’m exaggerating. Or, even in the absence of malice, is it typical to feel offended when your belongings are utilized in this manner?
