When I returned to the office after my honeymoon, I was dismissed for an absolutely ludicrous reason.
I was right when I predicted that my wedding day would be among the happiest and most unforgettable days of my life. Being surrounded by my loved ones made me feel like the happiest lady alive.
Following that wonderful day, we went to Bali for our honeymoon.
I was energized and eager to start this new chapter in my life when I went back to work. However, I sensed a strange vibe as soon as I entered the workplace. Everyone was murmuring behind my back and silently staring at me.
I hadn’t mentioned my nuptials to my coworkers and had simply taken a short week off. I was therefore confused by their responses.
Our supervisor asked to meet me in his office, so one of my coworkers suddenly came up to me with a smile that didn’t look very nice. I went because I was curious.
What was waiting for me, however, was far more unexpected than I had anticipated. He said, “You’re fired,” in a chilly tone, without even looking up from his computer when I walked into his office.
It was unbelievable to me. And the explanation he gave me was surprising.
In a severe manner, my supervisor clarified that it was inappropriate for me to keep the team in the dark about my wedding.
He viewed it as a kind of “concealment” and claimed that someone who keeps such significant personal details a secret is unreliable in a work setting.
It was unbelievable to me.
I got fired because of a wedding and a week off!
Even though all I wanted was to maintain some privacy in a society where everything is shared all the time, it felt like I had committed a crime.
I attempted to defend my position, but he had already made up his mind.
For such a ridiculous cause, my job, my years of hard work, and my dedication all fell apart in a matter of minutes.
I was relieved and astonished when I left his office, but I was also resolved not to let this episode define my professional path.
