Six years have passed since my divorce. My ex-husband remarried shortly after. For my part, I made the decision to dedicate my life to Lily, my daughter. My ex-husband maintained a strong relationship with Lily during our divorce, and Cassandra, his new wife, made every effort to win her trust.
Lily, who is seventeen, will begin college this autumn. She was excited for her prom this year. She had spotted a lovely outfit, but it cost $1000, which was a lot of money.
I make a solid living, but I knew this garment was beyond out of my price range. Lily knew what was going on. She assured me she would be content with another dress and that it didn’t matter.
However, something unexpected occurred the night before prom. My ex-husband’s new wife, Cassandra, showed up at our house with a number of gifts. In front of us, she opened the presents and took out the garment Lily had shown me.

Then, smiling contentedly, as if she had triumphed, she walked out of the room.
I remained silent. Although Lily had finally received the dress of her dreams, I was really amazed by what she did next.
Lily was quite delighted when she saw the dress Cassandra had given her.
“Mom, look, it’s exactly the one I picked out,” she remarked, turning to face me.
I gave her a smile and gave her the dress I had made by hand, which was a near-perfect duplicate of the gown she had always wanted.
“I made this for you with all of my love and time, even though I know it’s not as costly.
I wanted to demonstrate to you that you can have something unique even without a large budget.
Lily’s eyes glistened as she gazed at me.
She eventually accepted the clothing I had sewn and remarked, “You know what, Mom?
I’ve learned how to make things unique from you.
I was proud of her for choosing love and hard work.
