😨😵When a soldier passed out in the middle of the street, his devoted dog angrily repelled anyone who attempted to assist. And we were really taken aback when we eventually realized why the dog was acting in this manner.
Children were laughing, people were walking down the alleys, and someone was feeding the pigeons in the park, as usual. Nothing hinted at any trouble; it appeared to be a typical, peaceful day.
I went for a walk with a friend, conversing and taking in the nice weather. But all of a sudden, a man wearing a military uniform, a big rucksack, and his devoted German shepherd caught our eye.
They were approaching us directly, and everything appeared to be as usual as ever. Until something occurred that chilled us to the bone.
The soldier suddenly lost his balance and fell to the ground, motionless. We hurried to assist, but the shepherd, like a sentry on duty, suddenly stepped over his owner, flashed his teeth, and snarled so fiercely that nobody dared approach.
He barked deeply and gave us a glare at every move we made. We had no idea what was going on or why the dog would not allow anyone approach his master, who was obviously in need of assistance.
And the whole park froze in shock when the secret was eventually exposed.
Uncertain of what to do, we stood hesitantly. With his respiration scarcely audible, the soldier laid still. The dog continued to circle around his master, occasionally gazing intently at the oncoming onlookers and other times growling. He would leap to his defense, as if he needed to take one more step. A gathering gathered and people started to stop, but nobody dared approach.
Then an old woman who was obviously familiar with dogs stated firmly: “He is not vicious; he is afraid of losing his master.” We must demonstrate our desire to assist him.
She took the initial step, knelt down carefully, and spoke to the dog in a calm, gentle voice. The shepherd grew vigilant, but he stopped growling and instead followed every movement with shaking eyes. Two additional men gradually joined her, one bringing out a bottle of water and the other calling for an ambulance.
The minutes seemed to drag on forever. Everyone exhaled in relief when the dog eventually let them gently flip the soldier onto his back since he was breathing. He had just passed out. The medics showed in and helped a few minutes later.
As if living every moment with his master, the shepherd sat close by the entire time, whimpering softly and stared at him without turning away. The dog chased after the man as he was brought away in the ambulance, preventing them from being separated.
Shaken by what had transpired, we stood in the park. We will never forget that day, not just because of the unanticipated event but also because of the enduring love and loyalty that a dog can possess. An animal may have greater empathy and understanding than a person.
