We were astonished to learn the reason behind a dog’s refusal to leave an unidentified patient.
I work as a nurse in our town’s hospital. An unconscious man with a serious head injury was sent to the emergency room one day. His sleeves were ripped, and his face was scratched.
He was taken in early in the morning, but he didn’t awaken until late that evening. He was so confused when he opened his eyes that he was unable to recall anything, not even his name.
A German Shepherd and a police sergeant visited him the following day. He asked the man some questions, but his memory loss prevented him from answering.
The dog, meanwhile, remained motionless and silent as it gazed intently at the man without shifting position. After taking notes for a few minutes, the sergeant said, “Bob, let’s go,” and got up.
The dog didn’t move, which surprised everyone. The sergeant persuaded it to leave the room, but it flatly refused.
Initially, nobody knew why the dog was behaving in this manner. But everyone was stunned by what was ultimately disclosed.
Confused, the sergeant walked over to the dog.
He made another attempt to tell it to go, but the animal remained motionless.
Inquiring as to whether the dog recognized the man, the staff and doctors began glancing at one another.
A little canvas bag was spotted by a nurse beneath the injured man’s bed.
Carefully, she lifted it up and opened it.
A little wallet with a train ticket and identity documents was found inside.
The most startling, however, was a black-and-white photograph of the dog and the comatose guy smiling.
Five years ago was the date written on the back of the picture.
Slowly, the puzzle began to fit together.
It seems like this dog was more than simply a pet. but an observer of something far more intricate.
