I stopped a woman who was driving at 150 km/h, ready to just issue a fine, but suddenly I noticed something strange under her feet

I was about to simply give a woman who was traveling at 150 km/h a fine when I spotted something odd beneath her feet.

My shift was a routine patrol. My companion and I were traveling through an area outside of the city where collisions frequently occur, particularly on straight roads where speeding is common. It was silent, perhaps too silent.

Then, as if it hadn’t noticed us, I saw a gray automobile drive right by us. A cursory look at the radar indicated 150 km/h. In the middle of the day on a deserted road. You want to believe that the individual was merely rushing. However, that does not justify breaking the law.

I looked at the license plates right away; there were no infractions, and the car was registered and unwanted. I activated the lights, sounded the siren, and gave the stop signal. The vehicle initially appeared to slow down before accelerating once more.

I had already issued a strong warning over the loudspeaker:

— Driver, please stop now! You will be held responsible for your violation of the rules.

The vehicle eventually came to a stop on the side of the road after several hundred meters. I exited and went to the driver’s side as instructed. A young woman, perhaps thirty years old, was behind the wheel.

She had a pale, nervous face, and her eyes were filled with worry.

— Are you aware of this stretch’s speed limit?

Indeed, indeed. “I understand…” she murmured, almost breathless.

I leaned slightly toward the window and firmly stated, “Then, may I see your documents?”

I realized then that there was a problem beneath her feet. The automobile floor had a puddle on it 😱😱

The floor had a puddle on it. However, it wasn’t bottle water. I knew right away that the woman was in childbirth.

— Has your water stopped working?

— Please, assist me. I’m by myself. Her voice trembled, “I have no one.”

Definitely. As soon as possible, I radioed that I was taking a pregnant woman to the closest hospital. After loading her into our vehicle, I drove as fast but cautiously as I could. She nearly shouted as she went along because the contractions were becoming more intense.

I barely maintained my own composure, but I held her hand and did my best to calm her.

Literally at the last minute, we got to the hospital. I had forewarned the physicians, and they were already waiting at the door. The woman was transported to the delivery room right away.

I came back a few hours later, and this narrative stuck with me. The midwife then emerged into the corridor, grinned, and uttered:

Congratulations! The baby is a girl. robust and healthy. The mother is also doing well.

Moments like these are perhaps what make my job so fulfilling. The law is significant. Humanity, however, is more significant.
