A famished she-wolf was saved by him. The woodland returned the favor a hundredfold a year later. 🐺
A reclusive and lonely man, John had taken sanctuary in the mountain’s cold woodlands. 🌲 He at last felt at home there, away from the bustle of people. 🐾 He came discovered a body on the ground one morning while tracking new animal footprints in the snow.
He froze as he approached. It was a wolf.
Fearsomely emaciated, her skin hanging to her bones, it was a she-wolf. She had matted and filthy fur. However, there was an odd glow in her eyes. No hostility, no fear. Only suffering.
John slowly knelt down. From his rucksack, he removed his final piece of dried beef and carefully set it a few inches aside. With caution, the she-wolf sniffed before eating. Silently and slowly.
— “You also deserve another chance,” he muttered.
Then, believing she would vanish forever, he left without waiting.
After a year…
For no apparent reason, John went back to that area of the forest. Out of nostalgia, maybe. There was quiet until a voice, or more accurately, an odd whisper, whispered:
— John
He stopped. Not a soul in sight. Suddenly, a magnificent she-wolf with shining fur appeared out of the trees.
She walked silently closer, her eyes as fierce. More wolves soon appeared in their immediate vicinity. A bundle. None, however, showed their teeth.
The voice came back to him in his head:
She was saved by you. It’s your chance to be safe now.
John became so overcome with emotion that he fell on his knees. At that moment, he realized that nature understands how to reciprocate the purest of gestures when you show it respect.
