People outraged at underwear seemingly depicting Rosa Parks at Met Gala

Lisa from the group Blackpink, one of the most well-known figures in K-Pop, attended the 2025 Met Gala. The singer most recently appeared in White Lotus, an HBO series, in its third season.

But it appears that a particular image that many have seemed to identify with her dress has caused a lot of internet anger.

On Monday night, Lisa, a member of the global pop phenomenon Blackpink, made her debut at the Met Gala. To symbolize this year’s theme, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” the singer-actress wore a couture Louis Vuitton outfit.

However, she did not get the response she was hoping for from her attire.

Her ensemble, which included a lacy bodysuit that ended at her thighs, branded tights, and an embroidered black blazer, effectively gave her a “pantless” appearance. However, Lisa’s outfit’s features—rather than her pantless style—were the talk of the town.

Those who closely examined her attire could see that the lace design on her panties represented female faces. One of them had a striking resemblance to the late American civil rights activist Rosa Parks.

Additionally, others were upset since Lisa had previously been criticized for her supposed racist actions. “Rosa Parks on your underwear less than three months after a compilation of you saying the N word goes viral is kind of crazy, but maybe that’s just me,” someone wrote on X.

Another irate internet user responded, “whoever at LV needs to be jailed,” alluding to the clothing designer who might have caused this incident.

“The theme is tailoring black style, so why is she wearing civil rights leaders on her crotch?” was one comment made by someone who couldn’t stand her boldness.

Since she put a blazer over it, the faces, which were made of lace, were primarily seen below her waist.

“I was worried and wondered why Rosa Parks was so popular. I am aware that Lisa does not currently have Rosa Parks all over her undergarments. Who believed this to be a good idea? Not only is it extremely repulsive, but how is this relevant to the theme?Another irate fan inquired.

This incident occurs weeks after a video purportedly showing Lisa and Jennie and Rosé, two other members of Blackpink, using a racial slur on stage reappeared.

Fans’ ire was heightened by the lack of a statement or acknowledgement of the incident.

One well-liked remark on X said, “Lisa doesn’t seem to care as she wears underwear with images of ROSA PARKS, a civil rights icon who fought against racial injustice, despite saying the n-word multiple times and never apologizing.”

A Louis Vuitton spokesman told The Cut that Pharrell Williams personally selected American artist Henry Taylor to create the design. The spokesman stated that “portraits of figures who have been a part of the artist’s life” were included in the print.

Neither Lisa’s team nor the brand have confirmed that the woman in the photo on her underwear was, in fact, Rosa Parks.
