Mom’s update after using dead son’s sperm to have baby via surrogate

Following the loss of her son, Spanish actress Ana Obregón made news in 2023 when she decided to honor his last request by using his sperm to have a child through surrogacy.

Aless Lequio, Ana’s son, tragically died of cancer in 2022 at the age of 27. Following his passing, Ana disclosed that he had conveyed a strong wish to become a father, which she was resolved to fulfill.

Ana gave birth to a baby girl in the US through surrogacy a year later. She subsequently explained that the child, named Anita, was created using Aless’ stored sperm and was actually her grandchild rather than her daughter.

In April 2023, Ana stated ¡Hola!, “This girl is my granddaughter, not my daughter.” “As she grows up, I will tell her that her father was a hero so she will know who he is and how proud she should be of him.” She is Aless’ daughter.

Despite still grieving the loss of her only son, Ana, now 70, recently talked on Spanish television about the bittersweet satisfaction she finds in rearing Anita.

According to The London Evening Standard, she grinned and remarked, “My house is full of stuffed animals and toys.” “She even forces me to jump into my little ball pool.”

However, Ana said that as Anita gets older, some of the physical difficulties have been more challenging: “It’s getting harder on my back to pick her up.”

“We go through life thinking we’re eternal, that nothing will happen to us,” she said openly, reflecting on the shock of Aless’ diagnosis. Then, at the age of 25, you receive the news that you have severe cancer. When you’re young, you don’t expect to hear that.

Because of the tragedy of losing Aless as a youngster, Ana also said that she now feels more worry when raising Anita than she did at that time.

In addition to the unusual circumstances, her decision to utilize a surrogate to conceive garnered a lot of public attention because surrogacy is prohibited in Spain. Ana became Anita’s legal caregiver after adopting her when she was born in the United States.

Ana has previously talked candidly about the intense sadness she experienced following the death of her son, stating that she felt “dead for three years.” She didn’t start feeling alive again until Anita was born.

Anita’s second birthday was recently celebrated with a ¡Hola! interview in which Ana revealed: “I know I’ll never feel the happiness I had when Aless was with me again.” That hurt won’t go away. The loss of a child is not something you can accept or move on from. You simply learn to accept it.

“Thankfully, Anita now keeps me busy,” she added. “From the time Aless passed away until Anita was born, I was dead for three years. A breath of fresh air is life.
