Boy Calls 911 to Ask For Help with Math, Cops Soon Realize He Needs Real Help

A 10-year-old child in Shawano County, Wisconsin, contacted 911 for assistance with his arithmetic assignment, sparking an unusual episode that attracted the attention of officials and the media. He had no one else at home to turn to for assistance when he was having trouble with a basic decimal math problem. In an attempt to find someone who could aid him with the task, the child sought for help during his contact with dispatcher Kim Krause. Krause sent an officer to the boy’s home to assess the problem and provide the help he requested after realizing this wasn’t an emergency.

After receiving the call, Shawano County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chase Mason visited the boy’s residence. Mason, who was eager to assist, accepted the request and provided the child with basic guidance on how to solve his math problem. The deputy did his best to help, describing the problem in the most straightforward manner and pointing the child in the direction of the right answer, albeit acknowledging that he wasn’t an expert in math.

Deputy Mason told the youngster that 911 was exclusively for emergency situations and suggested that he utilize the non-emergency line for any such questions in the future. In order to keep in touch in case he needed more help, he also provided him a business card. This incident demonstrated the community support that law enforcement frequently offers and how they occasionally go above and beyond the call of duty to assist their communities in different ways.

The event attracted notice and made law enforcement officials famous for going above and beyond to serve their communities, even when assistance is not anticipated. In this instance, the cops stressed the value of using the appropriate channels for non-emergency contact in addition to providing assistance with a math problem.

The small child and his family were appreciative of the assistance they received, and this incident served as an illustration of the proper conduct of law enforcement officials who are always willing to aid, even in dire circumstances. Such incidents show that although unforeseen circumstances can occur, there are always chances to do good deeds and assist others.
