Many people have aspirations of taking a leisurely cruise. Most people schedule their vacation days in order to take the cruise of their dreams and rest and rejuvenate.
But when the crew of Cunard’s Queen Anne found out that they would have to follow stringent regulations for a frightening reason during a part of their journey, they were in for a nasty surprise.
Read on to find out more.
For their own safety, passengers on Cunard’s Queen Anne cruise ship’s inaugural voyage were somewhat taken aback when they were instructed to turn off all lights and close all drapes.
The enormous, opulent ship is traveling the world. The 111-night voyage, which began in Germany, was just passed through the Sulu-Celebes Sea and the waters close to Darwin, Australia, and Manila, the Philippines.
The surprising announcement came from the ship’s captain. The ship’s captain informed the passengers that they would be functioning at a “heightened level of security alertness.” This was due to the ship’s passage through a piracy-prone area.
To reduce the ship’s visibility to others, the external promenade decks were to be closed for the night and only the lights necessary for the open deck to be on. To lessen the possibility of being discovered, visitors were advised to keep their curtains drawn and to switch off the stateroom lights when not in use.
People reacted on how scary the statement sounded in a video that went viral. A cruise ship passenger demonstrated in another TikTok video that the ship is equipped with firearms and security guards to prevent any potential attacks.
It is still up for debate if there is a significant chance of a pirate attack on a cruise ship. A representative for Cunard, the cruise line, countered that it was all part of usual procedure. “When sailing through certain regions, our Captains may make precautionary announcements as part of standard maritime procedures,” they stated.
“The ship and its passengers were not in any particular danger, and our experience aboard remained unhindered,” they explained.
