Carrie Underwood cuddles her toddler son while Breanna Nix performs “Jesus, Take the Wheel” during her “American Idol” audition.
The new season of American Idol, which has Ryan Seacrest as its original host and Lionel Richie, Carrie Underwood, and Luke Bryan as judges, starts on Sunday night, marking the show’s 700th episode.
Carrie, a new coach this season, isn’t used to seeing her songs performed by the hopefuls. However, for her audition, 25-year-old Breanna Nix from Denton, Texas, has chosen Carrie’s “Jesus, Take the Wheel.”
However, Breanna wasn’t by herself. Her husband Austin will play the piano alongside her, and she is accompanied by her toddler son Emerson. Breanna asks Carrie if Emerson may sit with her while he’s restrained, and the Idol winner takes him in her arms and sits him in her lap during the performance.
Carrie gently reprimands Breanna after she clarifies that she is “just a stay-at-home mom.” Never claim to be a stay-at-home mother. He must love his most important job, which is yours.
Breanna then discusses a significant life transition she underwent as a result of becoming a mother in her video package.

She claims that Emerson was a blessing she was unaware she needed. I was always the bigger girl and was overweight my entire life. I weighed 315 pounds immediately after giving birth to my kid. I recall looking down at him in the delivery room and realizing that this lifestyle was not going to work if I wanted to be the greatest mother I could be. I embarked on a path of self-love when I made the decision to reduce weight. I want Emerson to know that everything is possible, which is why I am undertaking this [audition]. He is observing his mother pursue her goals. I’m hoping he’ll follow suit eventually.
Carrie was crying when Breanna completed singing her lovely rendition of her song. However, the video ends there, so if you want to know if Breanna wins a Golden Ticket to Hollywood, you’ll need to watch American Idol on ABC on Sunday at 8 p.m. ET/PT. It will stream on Hulu the following day.
