When Victoria went back to her grandfather’s home in Iowa, she found that his beloved sofa was still in the main room. She sat on it for a while, remembering her childhood, and then it broke. What she discovered therein transformed her entire life.
Victoria’s mother, Ella, abandoned her when she was a little girl and went to New York with her lover after she became weary of living in poverty. Edward, Victoria’s father, worked as a delivery driver in the mornings and a warehouse worker at night, but his earnings were insufficient to sustain the family.
Not to mention Victoria’s grandfather Silas, who was battling illness and nearing the end of his life, but especially himself. Thus, by relocating from Iowa to New York with her partner, Ella discovered a simple solution to her problems.
At the time, Victoria was fifteen. When her father passed away in a terrible accident a few months later, leaving her and Silas alone, the girl had only recovered from her mother’s flight.

After Edward’s passing, Ella paid Victoria a visit and spoke with her on the phone, which upset Silas. He despised her even more when she went, even though he had never liked her before.
Victoria was compelled to move in with her mother in New York after Silas died a year later. It’s obvious that Victoria didn’t like Dave, Ella’s purported lover, and he didn’t like her either.
Over time, their frequent arguments produced issues in the home, and Dave eventually moved out of Ella’s residence. Following this event, Dave told Ella that he was leaving Victoria because he detested her and her “unpleasant” behaviors, thus worsening their relationship.
At first, Ella didn’t care about costly presents because she was able to get by on the money her boyfriend left her. They survived on this for around six months.

Ella didn’t seem to care about getting a career or making plans for the future; she just continued going to the pawn shop. When her money ran out, she sought a new man since she didn’t want to work.
Victoria, fed up with her mother’s terrible existence, applied for scholarships and somehow found her way to New York University, where she met Kevin. Their friendship swiftly blossomed into love after they met while working part-time at the same cafe.
Soon after, Victoria became pregnant and the two lovers moved in together. After learning of Victoria’s pregnancy, Kevin left her just before their graduation.
Victoria went back to her mother to ask for assistance, but she turned her down. The young lady eventually graduated and went back to her grandfather’s home in Iowa.

The house had been boarded up for years, and the dense weeds made it difficult to see from the street. When the hefty door refused to open, Victoria made the decision to contact for assistance.
Luckily, a young man cutting wood in the neighbor’s garden caught her attention. “Hey, could you please assist me?” From her door, Victoria called.
The man grinned at her as he looked up from the wood. “Yes,” he said. “I’ll arrive in two minutes.”
