Sometimes life is terribly terrible, yet other times it is inspiringly beautiful. I suppose that the unpredictable nature of it all is part of what makes the voyage so interesting.
Brianna Rawlings was struck a devastatingly painful blow when she was eighteen years old, seventeen weeks pregnant, and eager to become a mother.
The adolescent was diagnosed by doctors with NK cell leukemia, a rare and aggressive blood malignancy. Prior to it, hospitals and physicians would simply dismiss all leukemia symptoms as “pregnancy related symptoms.”
Brianna was about midway through her pregnancy when she had to decide whether to end her baby’s life and start the potentially life-saving treatment, or to go ahead and birth her son and skip the treatment in the hopes that he would lead a happy and healthy life.
Instead of receiving treatment during her pregnancy, the young girl concentrated on giving birth to her kid. However, in a tragic turn of events, her sacrifice would ultimately lead to the deaths of both mother and child.
Kyden, her kid, was only here for 12 brief days. Despite receiving enough affection to last a lifetime, he eventually passed away since he was born three months early.
Doctors were concerned that Brianna’s blood infection could be transferred to the unborn child, so they had to perform an emergency cesarean surgery to deliver tiny Kyden.
“Those 12 days I was able to spend with my baby boy Kyden, holding him, counting his toes and fingers, and talking to him like I would when he was in my tummy,” Brianna disclosed in an interview with Femail, as reported by the Daily Mail. They were simply the most memorable twelve days of my life!
She went on, “It’s been really difficult, drawn out, tiring, and painful.” “Kyden gave me the strength to continue and overcome this, even though he is no longer with us.
“I wish to overcome this terrible illness. I promised my son that I could accomplish this, and I think I can.
At first, Brianna’s condition really appeared to be improving.
She was exerting herself to the limit in an attempt to get her leg muscles to function again, and her blood levels had started to rise.
Unfortunately, things took a turn for the worst. Doctors had planned to have her have a bone marrow transplant from her brother, but they had to postpone it as her condition rapidly worsened.
Rather, they gave her an experimental medication that they thought would increase her chances of surviving.
Her family managed to acquire the money needed to start her on a regular course of treatment, even though it cost an eye-watering $3,000 every week.
Before the cancer claimed her life, they were only able to administer the medication twice.
On December 29, 2018, 19-year-old Brianna Rawlings lost her battle with leukemia; yet, she fought and ultimately died away with a fearless dignity that few of us can ever aspire to equal.
Such a powerful example of the purest form of love.
We are praying and thinking of Brianna Rawlings’ family. She is a lovely lady, in my opinion. She made a lot of efforts for her child.
