After the Chiefs-Panthers game on November 24, 2024, fans crowded around the rails at Charlotte, North Carolina’s Bank of America Stadium, hoping that players would give them a high five or something to take home.

A short video clip that was posted online shows Chiefs players leaving the stadium while fans wave at them. An warning went off when a young boy lost his balance and fell off the edge of the raised stands.

Wharton responded right away, lunging forward to catch the boy as he fell, avoiding a head-first collision that could have been dangerous. Wharton helped the child safely back onto the stands with the help of a security guard.

The boy and some other boys were being told by a security guard to stay away from the fences before the boy fell. The guard was clearly scared and tried to push them back while telling them over and over again not to lean over the edge. He begged them to stop pushing each other against the fence.

The boys didn’t listen to the guard’s advice, which led to an accident that could have been very bad if Wharton hadn’t stepped in so quickly. A guest on the “Pat McAfee Show” talked about the event and Wharton said that reaching out to grab the child was a “natural reaction” for him.

“Usually, when I leave the game, I try to throw my gloves into the crowd, and I think I heard my name a little. When I heard my name, I saw him coming down,” he said.

Wharton saw two security guards, but they were just staring at them because they didn’t know what was going on. “I had to push him into the stands a little bit, though, to make sure he didn’t hit too hard,” he said. The defense end also said that he held the kid up by the back to keep him from falling.

Wharton said he hasn’t had a chance to get back in touch with the boy, but he wanted to ask him to a game so they could share the experience.

Wharton has been a regular on the Kansas City Chiefs team since he joined the NFL. He is now in his fifth season with the team in 2024. Signed as an undrafted free agent in 2020, he has shown his worth on the field by being determined and tough throughout his career.

Before what happened, the Chiefs lost to the Carolina Panthers 30–27, but it was a very close game. The exciting game showed how tough the Chiefs are, as they won their 10th straight season with 10 or more wins, which is an amazing accomplishment in the Super Bowl era.
