Because their original mother was unable to care for them, Simone, the middle of four children, and her three brothers had a challenging upbringing. Simone explained that she and her siblings focused on eating because they experienced starvation as children. “We didn’t have a lot of food,” the athlete stated. She continued by saying that
I clearly remember that I was starving at the time, and there was a cat that wandered the house. When they fed this cat, I would ask, “Where the hell is my food?” because I was also hungry.
Social professionals were dispatched to help with the issue after local people reported what they had witnessed. When the kids were eventually placed in a foster home, Simone said she had no recollection of ever being placed in the foster system as a child.
It happened when Simone was still a tiny child, and she recalled it like way: “We had been taken from our biological mom, and then you just think you’re going to go back to her.”
Their stay in foster care did not prove to be a traumatic event for Simone and her younger sister Adrian because they were both adopted by their maternal grandparents, Nellie and Ron Biles.
