Las Vegas police K9 passes away at 9 (Rest In Peace Yogi)

In Las Vegas, At the age of nine, a K9 from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department passed away.

LVMPD posted something on X Friday. K9 Yogi was a Belgian Malinois teamed with Officer Marano.

Yogi began working with Marano on patrol in June 2018 after joining the Las Vegas police in late 2017.

Patrol dogs are employed, according to the police, to locate suspects who run away from them and as a less-lethal force alternative to defuse tense situations between suspects.

According to Metro police, “K9 Yogi was an exceptional police dog and partner.” “He died on October 10, 2024, despite being a tough dog who had survived cancer.”

He was supposed to retire on October 9th, the day his service finished. It was determined by the police that he was unable to walk due to an unexpected neurological condition.

Metro claims that Yogi enjoyed his job as a police dog. “His dedication to the Las Vegas community, his demonstrations at elementary schools, and the numerous suspects he identified and captured will live on in our memories. Yogi will always be remembered for making Las Vegas a safer place to live.
