14-year-old boy dies while running 5k

On November 4, 2023, Knox MacEwen, age 4, passed away while participating in a 5K in Florida, according to NBC 6 South Florida.

Knox participated in the Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (JROTC) program at his Davie, Florida, Western High School.

Regretfully, his brief existence was terminated due to her cardiac arrest during a program-sponsored 5K.

The tiny child was taken to Memorial Hospital Miramar, according to NBC Miami, where he was subsequently declared deceased.

I regret to inform you of the awful news that has affected our Wildcat community. In a message to students, family, and staff, Jimmy Arrojo, the administrator of the school, stated that one of their JROTC students had gone early this morning after being taken to the hospital.”I want to send my sincere condolences to his family, friends, teachers, and fellow students during this difficult time of loss.”

“I ask our Wildcat community to come together in prayer and support for the family during this time of profound sorrow,” he said. Please be aware that anyone in need of support or assistance can meet with grief counselors this week on campus.

The US Armed Forces sponsors the JROTC program, which is a federal high school initiative. It is referred to as a character development program that gives young people “leadership skills, self-confidence, and self-discipline.”

Knox was well-liked and involved in Cooper City’s Crossway Church.

“I think when you have a tragedy like this, and someone as loved as Knox, there’s ripple effects all the way through our church community, so we have students that were friends with him, family members that are friends with his family, so it’s been a really difficult time,” Pastor Jon Elswick said in reference to the shocking loss.

He went on, “I love that phrase because if you knew Knox, that’s who he was, right? This is a teenager who when you think about him, you think of a loving kid, a caring kid, a funny kid.” Knox’s father had told him a few days prior that Knox was the best of us.

We are deeply saddened for this little life’s loss. I hope he finds peace.
