Millionaire businessman Mike Lynch and his teenage daughter were discovered dead after their superyacht capsized off the coast of Sicily. The circumstances surrounding the incident are still being looked into.
What should have been a triumphal voyage into the sunset for British IT entrepreneur Mike Lynch and his family instead turned into a tragic event.
Search teams found the horrifying object amidst the debris of Lynch’s opulent superyacht, Bayesian, on August 21. A uncommon and fierce waterspout known as the “black swan” attacked the ship and caused it to capsize off the coast of Sicily.
When the Chief of Civil Protection revealed that Lynch, popularly known as “Britain’s Bill Gates,” and his 18-year-old daughter Hannah were among the four deceased found, what was meant to be a “victory trip” turned into an unfathomable loss. On board the sinking yachts, Lynch and his daughter were found snuggled between mattresses.
Having just prevailed in his US fraud trial regarding the $10.9 billion (£8.3 billion) sale of his IT business, Autonomy, to Hewlett-Packard, the 59-year-old billionaire was not the only one to perish in the sea.
The two further bodies—a man and a woman—that were discovered in the master bedroom are yet unidentified. Worse, there’s still a fifth corpse imprisoned in the underwater grave of the once-beautiful ship.
The search for American pair Chris and Neda Morvillo, as well as for Morgan Stanley senior executive Jonathan Bloomer and his spouse Judy, is a race against time for the authorities. The layers of this unfolding nautical tragedy were added earlier on Monday with the rescue of Bayesian’s chef, Recaldo Thomas.
Former Royal Navy forecaster and meteorologist Jim Dale described how Lynch’s warship was impacted by the waterspout. He said the occurrence had “anaemology written all over it” because of the number of waterspouts in the area.
There were about nineteen waterspouts in the region, according to reports on the day of the tragedy, making the situation exceedingly dangerous. Dale believes that after receiving weather alerts, the yacht’s captain most likely behaved conservatively.
However, it’s likely that by anchoring the ship at sea as opposed to in port, they accidentally put themselves in greater danger. He also surmised that some survivors might have escaped the brunt of the storm because they had been alerted sooner.
People all throughout the world have been stunned by the sea calamity, which has led to a lot of speculation and doubts regarding the true nature of the incident. There are a lot of theories and viewpoints on social media, which makes many people think there might be more to the story than meets the eye.
Some brazenly asserted that the event amounted to “murder,” while others questioned the odd timing. “Serious suspicions have been raised regarding the sinking of Mike Lynch’s yacht, especially considering the pivotal role his company played in the 9/11 investigations,” the individual stated. His body was found just now. Was it an unfortunate mishap or something far darker? How do you feel?
To further compound the enigma, another person made the observation, “Just to be clear. All those connected to Mike Lynch are currently dying under strange circumstances. Many people are wondering if this was actually an unfortunate accident or if there were other, more sinister forces at work, since the internet is rife with inquiries.
Angela Bacares, the wife of Lynch, shared her account of what happened on the day the Bayesian superyacht sank a few days prior. She was still in shock and getting over the terrible accident. While awaiting word on the whereabouts of her spouse and their eighteen-year-old daughter Hannah Lynch, she disclosed the devastating truth at the time.
Recounting how she and Lynch were awakened by an unpleasant shift aboard the sinking $18 million (£14 million) vessel, Bacares—who now uses a wheelchair—recounted having to escape on broken glass.
She claimed to have felt a “slight tilt” just before commotion broke out, waking them up at 4 a.m. on Monday, August 19, according to La Repubblica, an Italian news source.
Lynch and Bacares first had neither fear nor anxiety. But as she stirred in her slumber to look around, she was startled and her mood transformed by the sound of breaking glass.
The mast gave way, and the superyacht plummeted 160 feet off the coast of Sicily, about an hour after Bacares and Lynch had awoken (5 am local time).
In an interview with a different publication, Bacares described how “everything was falling” around her. The fact that she claimed she was almost “carried away” before she was able to escape to safety only served to heighten her sense of terror at that very moment.
According to a different account, Bacares and the other survivors of the boat disaster have been receiving assistance from a group of psychiatrists from the Palermo Health Authority and civil protection following her narrow escape.
The survivors will also have accommodations at the Domina Zagarella Hotel. Following his treatment at a Termini Imerese hospital, Bacares was transferred to the hotel.
