Melania Trump Speaks Out in Emotional Statement After Assassination Attempt: ‘Political Games Are Inferior to Love’

The morning following Donald Trump’s shooting, the former first lady sent a long letter urging Americans to “look beyond the red and blue.”

The morning following her husband’s shooting at a Pennsylvania campaign rally, Melania Trump made a moving speech in which she urged people to prioritize “love, compassion, kindness, and empathy” over politics.

The former first lady said in a statement on Sunday, July 14, “When I watched that violent bullet strike my husband, Donald, I realized my life, and Barron’s life, were on the brink of devastating change.” She also expressed sympathy for the families of the bystanders who were hurt, one of whom died.

“A creature that identified my spouse as a callous political apparatus endeavored to extract Donald’s essence — his wit, inventiveness, affection for melody, and motivation,” she remarked. “My husband’s fundamental qualities, his humanity, were submerged beneath the political apparatus. I have spent both the greatest and worst of times with Donald, the kind and giving man.

She went on, “Let us not forget that love is greater than differing viewpoints, policies, and political games.” “Political ideas are complicated compared to humans like us.”

“American politics are just one vehicle that can uplift our communities,” Melania said. Love, empathy, kindness, and compassion are essential.

“And let us keep in mind that, when the time comes to look past the red and blue, the left and right, and beyond, we are all descended from families that are passionate about fighting for a better life for one another while we are here on this planet.”

Melania declared, “This morning, rise above the hate, the vitriol, and the simple-minded ideas that ignite violence,” proclaiming that “dawn is here again.”

“We all desire a world in which love is unconditional, family comes first, and respect is valued highly.” We are able to relive this reality. We must all make demands to reclaim it. We have to make it our mission to restore respect as the cornerstone of our relationships,” the author added.

On July 13, while the former president was speaking at a campaign event in Butler, Pennsylvania, shots broke out. The former president was flanked by Secret Service officials as they hurried onto the platform; a bullet had just scraped his ear.

Agents of the Secret Service shot and killed the alleged shooter, identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, but not before killing one bystander and gravely wounding two more. The reason behind the shooting is yet unknown.

The former president was “fine,” according to the Trump campaign, and “being checked out at a local medical facility.” His campaign affirmed that everything would proceed according to schedule for the Republican National Convention, which gets underway in Milwaukee on Monday, July 15.

Following the incident, a number of Democratic lawmakers—including President Joe Biden, who referred to the violence as “sick”—spoke out against it.

That is among the reasons this nation has to be brought together. This cannot continue to occur. During his live, televised remarks, Biden stated, “We cannot be like this, we cannot condone this.”

“In the end, the Trump rally is one that he ought to have been able to organize calmly and without incident,” he went on. However, it is simply unheard of that there is political violence or violence of this kind in America. Simply put, it’s inappropriate. It must be denounced by everybody. Everyone.

Shortly after the shooting, a representative for Biden’s 2024 reelection campaign announced that their television advertisements would be taken down “as quickly as possible.”
