The Special Journey of Savannah and Her Twins with Down Syndrome

Did you know that the likelihood of having twins has gone up dramatically in the last few years? As a matter of fact, twins account for about 33 births per 1,000. The odds are much lower for identical twins, with just roughly three or four out of every 1,000 births being identical twins. It’s such a unique and uncommon occurrence because of this.

When Savannah Combs, 23, found out she was expecting twins, she was overjoyed. She and her spouse, Justin Ackerman, were also in for a surprise when they learned that both of their twins had Down syndrome. Savannah views her children as extremely precious, despite the fact that some people may condemn and criticize her and her infants due to their condition.

“They’ve been my little gems, but it’s very rare what they have,” she said. Savannah, a Middleburg, Florida resident, made the decision to share her postpartum experience on TikTok with her kids, Kennadi Rue and Mckenli Ackerman, and they soon attracted a devoted fan base.

Sadly, several advised Savannah to think about having an abortion because her children wouldn’t survive. She did, however, decide to give them a chance and considered each prenatal visit to be a gift.

Savannah’s husband Justin was gone at boot camp when she found out that both of her daughters had Down syndrome. She was admitted to the hospital on May 12, 2021, at 29 weeks pregnant, and she gave birth to identical twin girls. Kennadi Rue and Mckenli Ackerman arrived early, so they had to stay in the NICU for a few weeks before they could go.

“They are known as mono di twins, which indicates that although they each had a separate sac, they shared a placenta, guaranteeing their identifiability,” Savannah clarified. “Adding Down syndrome to already extremely rare Mo di twins makes them one in two million.”

Savannah, however, maintains that her daughters are no different from any other child, even with their uncommon ailment. They can learn and develop, and they have hearts that beat. Savannah posts updates and milestones on TikTok, demonstrating her belief in their future.

She proudly remarked, “These kids are happy little things and feisty little things.” “They might lag a bit, but they will succeed nonetheless. They will succeed as long as they set their minds to it.

Regretfully, some people have been critical of and hostile toward Savannah and her family. She was also advised by someone that they would put her baby up for adoption since they wouldn’t want any offspring like hers. Savannah, though, had the ideal retort:

It’s a good thing they were born to me and not you. Giving these babies to the appropriate parents who would adore them no matter what was a sign that God knew exactly what he was doing.
