Yes, our favorite parents with fourteen kids are divorcing each other. The couple filed for divorce on June 4 and the case was settled two days later, according to TMZ. I apologize, but this is not a joke on April Fools’ Day.
Get ready: they will divide both the physical and legal custody of their 13 minor children. You did indeed read that right. Derrick, 13, the twins Dallas and Denver, 12, the quintuplets Deonee, Daician, Daiten, Deniko, and Dariz, 6, the twins Diez and Dior, and the triplets Dawsyn, De’Aren, and Dyver, 4 years old, are the people we are talking about. Not only that, but Darian, the oldest daughter, isn’t even involved in this co-parenting schedule; she’s at college, presumably getting some much-needed “me time.”
As far as we can tell, Karen will take care of the kids’ health insurance, and Deon will pay $1,166 in child support each month. It’s interesting that she continues to go by Derrico; it appears that she has become fairly connected to it over time. Interesting, huh? Karen decided against taking her maiden name back, even with the judge’s assent, despite all of the turmoil surrounding splitsville.
You may be wondering how TLC feels about all of this. Representatives from PEOPLE are pounding on doors, but TLC hasn’t commented yet. It’s difficult to believe, considering that this family has been a mainstay of their network, chronicling the intense rollercoaster of parenting fourteen children.
The shocking thing is that this divorce news breaks just a few weeks before the July 2 season 5 finale of “Doubling Down with the Derricos.” Yes, we are about to see a spectacular end to a very turbulent season in which house searching, of all things, proved to be unable to maintain harmony. “The Derricos search for a new house has been a forever process and is putting a strain on Deon and Karen’s marriage,” is the exact words that appear in the official series description. How very prophetic!
