Some Florida Housekeepers Are Making More Than $100K a Year — Here’s Why

Staffing companies claim they are in severe need of skilled domestic workers in places like Palm Beach, Florida, where the average home price is expected to exceed $2 million in 2024.

Housekeepers are getting rich in some regions of Florida, earning over $100,000 a year. Although it may come as a surprise, there are a few good explanations for this tendency.

In wealthy neighborhoods like Palm Beach, where average residences cost more than $2 million, housekeepers are in great demand. Homeowners who are willing to pay top price for the best services are putting pressure on agencies to locate skilled employees.

A significant portion of this trend is the migration of wealthy people to Florida from states with high taxation, such as New York. They bring with them both their affluence and their requirement for superior domestic assistance.

Housekeepers in South Florida frequently make over $100,000 a year, along with nannies, cooks, and private security experts, according to CNBC. Fees frequently exceed $150,000 due to bidding battles among affluent properties. To put things in perspective, this is because hiring the “best of the best” employees is a competitive process.

The founder of The Wellington Agency, April Berube, states, “I’ve been placing staff for 30 years, and I’ve never seen anything like this.” The Wellington Agency serves wealthy communities including Palm Beach and Miami. The migration of wealthy people to Florida has created a massive need for domestic workers.

Zillow estimates that the average Palm Beach home is worth over $2 million, and that prices are increasing yearly. The demand for skilled domestic helpers is rising as a result of this development. Because hotels and private homes are competing to fill positions, housekeepers will receive better compensation as a result.

However, it goes beyond money. Berube says, “It takes time to hone specific skills and tools that are needed to be a housekeeper for the wealthy.” This increases the need for seasoned personnel even more.

Berube draws attention to the notable rise in hourly pay, which went from roughly $25 per hour in 2020 to as much as $50 per hour in 2024. The sharp rise in demand for competent housekeepers and the scarcity of supply are both evident in this.

The creator of Lily Pond Services, Melissa Psitos, reveals that she knows housekeepers who earn up to $250,000 a year. She also mentioned the sharp increase in job offers for housekeepers. One client raised their offer from the initial $75,000 to $110,000 in order to compete in the market.

Psitos continues, “There just aren’t enough competent housekeepers to meet the demand.”

Some homeowners first object to high pay expectations when salaries rise. According to Berube, clients are frequently taken aback by today’s wage demands. “They respond, ‘No way I’m paying that. But ultimately, people change their minds after realizing the benefits of knowledgeable assistance.

In conclusion, rising wealth migration, skyrocketing property values, and intense competition for skilled labor have resulted in a rise in demand for housekeepers in Florida. Household service is a lucrative career choice in these places, as competent household managers can take advantage of unparalleled compensation potential.
