Man discovers an old veteran sobbing in the restroom. Rude teen is laughing, and now everyone is discussing his reaction.
Marcus Pass tells the heartbreaking tale of a young person making fun of an elderly veteran who was too frail to get up from the toilet seat. Sadly, this illustrates well how callous and harsh most young people today are.
Rant of the day: I was eating lunch at Zaxby’s when I overheard a young man giggling at an elderly man who couldn’t get off the toilet in the bathroom. As I enter, I can hear the man sobbing on the toilet. I inquire as to his well-being and he replies that his legs are too weak for him to stand up, leaving his cane by the door. The man, who was wearing a Vietnam veteran hat, gave me a hug and said, “I’m 69 years old, and that was the most embarrassing moment in my life,” with tears in his eyes. I asked him to unlock the door, pulled him up, and helped him put his trousers on. I gave him a handshake, expressed my gratitude for what he had done, led him out to the lobby, and had the adolescent make apologies to the man.
We should always remember to treat the elderly with the utmost care since, if we are fortunate, we shall all grow old one day and be as defenseless and vulnerable at times as this elderly veteran.

The world would be a lot better place if more people were like Marcus.
