Homeless father lives in a car with his ten years old daughter: the police decide to help

Life is unpredictable, therefore there are times when we are thrown into a series of challenges that seem to last forever.

In spite of everything, there is always reason for optimism. This was demonstrated by Mr. James Schweihard’s 41-year-old American single father experience, in which he and his 10-year-old daughter ended up residing on the streets.

Despite the overwhelming odds against him, James was able to find a glimmer of hope and a better life thanks to the kindness of strangers and the support of his community.

After repeated fruitless attempts to find work and a place to live in Oklahoma, James and his daughter moved to Colorado and lived in a van there.

Constable Butler was called to undertake an investigation when his daughter’s teachers reported her living situation to the police.

James was initially worried that he may lose custody of his daughter, but he unexpectedly received help from the police, who mended his van without charging him and told others that they might assist him in finding a new job and a place to live.

Amazingly, almost every resident in the area came together to help James and his daughter start over by providing money, furniture, and other necessities.

The kindness of strangers restored James’ faith in humanity and gave him the inspiration he needed to get back on his feet.

Five job offers and a little house with a low rent allowed James to start a new chapter in his life.
