Iris Jones, a British woman in her 80s, met a 35-year-old Egyptian online just over a year ago.
The couple is now legally married, and the elderly woman was able to boast about her life on national television.
Irene recalled how she flew to Mohammed Ahmed Ibriham in Cairo a few months after meeting him and described the start of their correspondence.
According to the lovers, they stayed in bed the first night. It was revealed a year later that Irene and her youthful partner wed in Egypt.
Of course, many people were dubious about the marriage rumors. The young man is a gigolo, they are certain, and will steal all of her money.
But there are very good reasons for such a cynical viewpoint.
Mohammed was a welding inspector before he met Irene, the lovers claim, but he left his position “to spend more time with his love.”
Together with his younger sister and brother, he currently shares a three-room apartment.
The elderly woman’s circumstances are substantially better now that she owns a home with a veranda and receives a weekly state pension of 200 pounds.
Irene, though, is certain that everyone is simply envious of her happiness. Mohammed claims he has money to support himself. The man said he did not care that his selected one is 20 years older than his mother.
